I have come across many small businesses that for one reason or another have decided that they will forgo a website and use social media as their source of online presence. That is a plan but there are some flaws in it. First, as we all seen when Social Media goes down, there are huge problems. Yesterday there was a glitch in Facebook that made it hard if not impossible to post anything on social media. The other huge problem with Social Media is that they control who sees your page. That means that even if your customers like your posts, they may not be seeing everything you post.
The other big problem is that social media is great at putting your brand in front of people but are they actually reading the entire post? In many cases, people who are using social media are not going to read the entire post. So, the best practice is to use social media to get their attention and then send them to your website for more information. This not only drives traffic to your website but also has the potential to show your customers other great products that or information that is useful to them.
I recently added this service to one of the websites that I manage. It was amazing how quickly they were seeing results from the change. I now routinely create blog posts for them that apply to their business and can track the effectiveness based on the changes in services provided in the time after.
